recently there was a budweiser $3 rebate on 18 pack of beer - the only requirement was to buy the beer - this may be an ridiculous question but if you live in a state where no beer purchase is required do you have to buy the beer

does anyone know how to find the actual law to see how it is written - i know that there are numerous states that have this and i just need to clarify what the actual requirements are

thanks

I had no idea what you are talking about. It would seem to me that if it is a beer rebate, you would have to purchase the beer to qualify for the rebate, otherwise the company would be paying you for nothing. No Beer Purchase Required Rebate Question (2) But I googled, and found this:
http://www.couponingtodisney.com/2010/05/24/extra-cash-no-beer-purchase-required-rebates/

I might have to check this out.

Oddly, you may actually get $3 back if you just send the rebate form in w/ a note that reminds the processer that you live in a NBPR state. There was a rebate on a bottle of gin that had a no purchase required in certain states... folks around here got the rebate just for sending in the form.

I am sorry but anyone that tries to et a rebate os something that they haven't purchased,(even if by some law or other loophole they don't have to) if WRONG. Why is the world should anyone get money for nothing from a company. This goes way beyond being frugal, it is cheap as h***. No other word for it.

I was thinking of another word for it and it is immoral or unethical.

a rebate isn't the same as a prize. it is money back ie. a "rebate." at what point do you deserve money back when you paid no money? that is screwed up. to put it nicely.

i really hope that is is just someone trolling for trouble. I'd hate to think that someone actually believes it to be appropriate.

Oh, I believe it. Check out some of the coupon forum websites (not here on the dis). Very eye opening as to what people do.

That is beyond me. I see so many people buying stuff they don't need, grabbing stuff because it is cheap, or out and out stealing like this would be and it really bothers me.

Here in PA I've never even seen a rebate like that. It's always cash back when you buy the beer.

And I agree, that seems too good to be true and it would be wrong to take advantage of it if it is true.

Ok I actually read that blog entry (procrastination is a wonderful thing) - and it doesn't sound like the blogger is advocating the same thing OP is talking about doing. If you click on the links to see images of a couple example rebates, they say right on the rebate "No Beer Purchase Required." One is a $10 rebate on 4 Tombstone pizzas and the other is a $10 rebate from Coors when you pruchase $30 worth of certain items (Pepsi Max, Tostitos, & a few other things). I don't really understand this, as what would a beer company gain from offering a rebate if you don't have to purchase their beer, but it looks to me like this blogger is following the rules as written on the forms & not doing anything unethical.

What OP is asking about is a bit different - she is looking to send in a rebate form that says "x rebate off the purchase of x alcohol" but not purchase the alcohol & just get the rebate for free because of her state's law.

I receive several hundred dollars a year from beer companies and I don't drink. It is 100% legal and those of you chastising the "loopholes" have no clue what you are talking about. I find Bud forms in stores that don't carry beer as promotional items since many areas are dry.

Only certain states are NBPR states, KY is one of them. Why would Bud/Coors or any other firm put rebate forms into states where the rebates are illegal or loopholed?

The nice gift card ones for Christmas should be out soon, I'll be heading to a few Kroger stores to get the forms, purchase what is clearly identified that I need to purchase on the receipt, and then mail it in. If I find a form on a beer display that states "Get $25 when any $50 gift card is bought"-and right under it shows the words "no beer purchase requires in KY", then why do I need to buy the beer?

People really should know what they are talking about before throwing others under the bus, this thread is proof of that.

It is state of residence, if I find a form in Ohio that states $3 when beer is bought, I can't send the form in to get $3 because I live in KY. The forms thoroughly state what is allowed and what is permitted in each state.

I think we agree with each other, I wasn't saying OP should be allowed to get the $3 without purchasing the beer either, if the rules on the form are "Get $3 with purchase of $x in beer."

I'm not good with rebates because I end up buying things I don't really need/want just to get a rebate. Example - I once bought a big thing of Sunmaid raisins because there was a rebate offer inside of a DVD I had purchased. They sat in the cupboard forever before I finally made oatmeal raisin cookies just to use them up (which required purchasing oats). The $4 I got back from the rebate was not worth it, lol.

Wow, I had no idea that was even possible. I would fall into the camp: just because you can doesn't mean you ought to... Seems a bit like stealing if you don't follow the letter of the rebate.
