All brand new
20 Jul 2007 - 12:01, by chuck Well, it's all brand new, shiny isn't it? Ey, I like it! Would be stupid if I didn't, lot of effort, months of designing, building, filling the site up with texts and images, for something you don't like. I guess we'll be hearing what you guys think about it in the comments section of this Blog.Aaaargh, it's all in English, what have you done!?!?!
Well that deserves some explanation, maybe.
Since U2NL is not just playing in The Netherlands, but also a lot in Germany and the rest of Europe, and we're planning to conquer the rest of the world on short notice, we decided to make this website English only.
You might remember that our previous site had Dutch, English and German sections. And if you ever switched between those parts, you might have noticed that the info you'd find on those different sections was different. The Dutch part was up to date mostly, but the English and German section varied. You might think, "just translate the stuff guys!", but hey, that's quite a lot of work. And we're just musicians, who don't have much time to spend on translating in three languages.
So are you just lazy bastards?
Well you might make that conclusion, but we'd like to take the stand that it's much better to provide everybody the same information.
Why English
English is one of he most spoken languages, maybe Spanish and Chinese are spoken more, but our guess is that not everyone can read that. And most people speak English in some kind of fashion.
We' ll try to use, as a Dutch politician once said, "Jip & Janneke English", so everybody understands. Maybe that's also because we don't know how to make it difficult...
But can I still react in Dutch / German / Swahili
Well of course! It would be nonsense to ask of all our visitors to react in English, for example when we write about a gig in The Netherlands. So go ahead. The band members know Dutch, German, English and (a bit of) Spanish, so you have four options. And if you happen to speak Swahili, we'd be flabbergasted, so you're welcome to use that to! (There might be an online translator for that... )
So why a new site
We can just quote Sir Bob on this one: "The times they are a changing".
We like to change things once in a while. New techniques a available, so why not use those. And now we can have everything on board, audio, video, weblog etc etc.
What happened to my earlier reactions?
Since our old weblog was a free tool we weren't able to create a backup of that. So all reactions are gone, we're sorry for that. Well, gone... they can still be viewed on http://u2nl.web-log.nl/
So, any new rules on the blog?
Nah, not really. Everybody is free to react, but spam messages and messages that are disrespectful or even offensive will be deleted. But that's normal, isn't it?
So have fun using our site, just browse around, we're quite anxious to hear what you think about it! So post your comments over here!
