Annual overview

This year has almost passed and we can look back in pride to what this band has accomplished in 2007. The shows were overwhelming and we've seen quite a bit of the world yet again.Some management - and health issues didn't make it a walk in the park though. But all is well that ends well and U2NL is stronger than ever. Traditionally we give you a nice annual overview.

//THEATRE
This year started with it, januari 2007, at the "de Bussel" theatre in Oosterhout. The kick-off of our first theatre show and the beginning of a new road we took. It was a big succes. The response by the audience and the critics in the press were more than merely positive. U2NL did 3 shows in 2007 as a warming up to the big theatre tour of the upcoming season. We've proven ourselves theatre-worthy and with our crew we are working hard to whip the show into shape for 2008. But there's more! As we speak, shows are already being booked for 2009 which convinces us we are working on a very valuable product. To be continued...

//CHANGE OF BANDMEMBERS
At the start of 2007 guitar player Jan Marcel and the rest of the band weren't on the same wavelength anymore, so there you have it. After a lovely saturday packed to the brim with auditions, we chose Sander from a party of 5 potential "Edges" to be a more than adequate successor.
At the end of the year this turned out to be the best choice we ever made. With his authentic sound and U2 know-how, the band rose to a much higher level this year.

//U2 ROCKSERVICES/40 CoeXisT
A remarkable project that has started to grow beyond expectation. It all started with a telephonecall in September. Rev. Jan Andries de Boer approached us if we wanted to take part in a so called U2 Rockservice. Because we are no stranger to a little adventure now and then, we decided to participate. Meanwhile, we've done three of 'em, and the fourth is due March! Our single "40/CoeXisT", in co-operation with the Reverend, will be released in the middle of Januari. It was recorded at the famous "Wisseloord studio's".
And that's how it is done!!!

//ABROAD
As for our activities abroad, after Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg we now conquered Scandinavia ( well, more or less...) The band (minus the bass player and girlfriend, who went by car) boarded the plane at Schiphol to fly to Stockholm, to continue by bus and ferry, to get to the Rock-Off Festival at Aland, to be the closing act. Everything, on stage as well as backstage was well taken care of, plenty of food, booze and willing waitressess ( yeah, right...). Our only gripe was that there were no blue M and M's , and you had to pay extra for a massage. We couldn't sleep late, because we had to take the early ferry back to the main land. So much for being the headliner at the festival!!

//MEDIA
On the media front, it was also a smashing year. "And the absolute highlight still has to come" he spoke with a dark voice.....
"Oh, so you guys claim to have had at lot of media exposure?? With what??
Let me tell you, most of it had to to with the rock services and the recording of the single. We got coverage on "RTV Noord-Holland",in "het Fries Dagblad","de Volkskrant" and recently in "Trouw". One of their reporters was with us all day at Wisseloord during the recording of the single.
And the icing on the cake will be on New Years Eve, the top2000 countdown!

On New Years Eve, when the third channel will be totally about the top2000, pop-professor Leo Blokhuis will be driving through the Netherlands.He will be looking for funny, special and touching stories behind the top 10 songs in the top2000.The entire top 10 will be shown in videoclips."

//2008
The coming year will have a lot in store for us. U2NL wouldn't be U2NL if it would't!
We will kick off 2008 with a "back to the roots" gig at "het Scheepje" in Harmelen, a bar where we did one of our first gigs ever, some 5 years ago!
In the middle of januari, our single will be released.
Untill september, apart from the regular gigs, we will be honing our skills for the theatre tour "In the name of U2" of 30 shows (all-nighters), which will be starting September 2008.

Jaaroverzicht

Het jaar zit er bijna weer op en we kunnen weer met een goed en trots gevoel terug kijken naar hetgeen dit bandje allemaal gepresteerd heeft in 2007. De shows waren overweldigend en we hebben weer veel gezien van de wereld. Wat managements- en gezondheidsperikelen maakten het af en toe niet al te makkelijk. Maar zoals altijd is alles weer overwonnen en staat U2NL er momenteel beter voor dan ooit. Traditiegetrouw komen we in de laatste week van het jaar weer met een jaaroverzicht:

//THEATER
Het jaar begon ermee; januari 2007, theater de Bussel in Oosterhout. De aftrap van onze eerste theatershow en het begin van een nieuwe weg die we hebben ingeslagen. Met groot succes. Publiek en de resencies waren meer dan positief. Drie voorstellingen gaf U2NL in 2007, als aanloop naar de grote theatertour van komend seizoen. We hebben bewezen in het theater thuis te horen en samen met onze crew wordt hard gewerkt om de show in 2008 op grootse wijze neer te zetten. Daar zal het niet bij blijven. Nu al worden er voorstellingen voor 2009 geboekt wat ons het vertrouwen geeft aan een waardevol product te werken. Wordt absoluut vervolgd….

//BANDWISSEL
Gelijk aan het begin van dit jaar een bandwissel. Voorganger Jan Marcel en U2NL zaten niet meer op dezelfde lijn en dan houdt het op. Nadat we op een mooie zaterdag in februari vijf potentiele “the Edgen” hadden aangehoord bleek Sander alles in huis te hebben om een meer dan volwaardig opvolger te zijn. Nu aan het eind van dit jaar kunnen we stellen dat dit een superkeuze is geweest. Met zijn sound en U2 know-how steeg de band kwalitatief gezien met grote stappen dit jaar.

//U2 ROCKDIENST/ 40 CoeXisT
Een bijzonder project dat inmiddels aardig uit de voegen aan het barsten is. Het begon met een telefoontje in september. Ds Jan Andries de Boer belde met de vraag of we mee wilden werken aan een zgn. U2 Rockdienst. Aangezien wij niet weg zijn van een avontuurtje nu en dan besloten we hierop in te gaan. Inmiddels zijn we drie diensten verder, staat de vierde al geplanned voor maart 2008. Onze single "40/CoeXisT", in samenwerking met de dominee komt halverwege januari uit. De single is opgenomen in de beroemde "Wisseloord studio's".
And that's how it is done!!!

//BUITENLAND
Qua buitenland hebben we dit jaar, na Duitsland, Belgie, Oostenrijk, Zwitserland en Luxemburg, Scandinavia veroverd (nou ja, ongeveer...) De band, (minus per auto reizende bassist en vriendin) stapt op Schiphol in het vliegtuid, om te landen in Stockholm om vervolgens per bus en ferry naar het Rock-Off Festival op Aland te reizen, om de afsluiter van het festival te zijn. Alles, zowel op als backstage was prima geregeld, voldoende voedsel, drank en gewillige serveersters (yeah, right...). Jammer dat er geebn blauwe M&M's waren, en de massages niet bij de prijs inbegrepen waren. Helaas moesten we weer vroeg uit de veren, omdat we anders de boot zouden missen. Leuk Headliners op zo'n groot festival!!


//MEDIA
Ook qua media was het een topjaar. Met het hoogtepunt nog te komen.... Waarmee kwamen jullie dan in de media jongens?
Nou vooral met de U2 Kerkdiensten en de single 40 / CoeXisT. Daarmee kregen we aandacht van RTV Noord Holland, het Friesch Dagblad, De Volkskrant en het meest recent: Trouw. Hiervan was een journalist de hele dag aanwezig in de Wisseloord studio tijdens de opname van 40 / CoeXisT.
En het hoogtepunt volgt op Oudjaarsavond: De Top 2000 Telt af. Volgens de site van de Top 2000:

Op Oudejaarsavond, als Nederland 3 geheel in het teken staat van de Top 2000, rijdt popprofessor Leo Blokhuis door Nederland. In het NPS programma ‘De Top 2000 telt af!’ gaat hij op zoek naar grappige, bijzondere en ontroerende verhalen achter de nummers van de top 10 van de Top 2000. Ook is de gehele top 10 in clips te zien.

Met U2NL dus!

//2008
Voor het jaar 2008 staat er weer van alles in de planning, U2NL zou U2NL niet zijn als dat niet zo was. We beginnen 2008 met een een back to the roots concert in ' t Scheepje in Harmelen. We bestaan in 2008 vijf jaar, geen beter moment om de kroeg waar we eens van onze eerste gigs gaven weer eens te bezoeken.
Dan volgt halverwege januari de officiele single release van 40 / CoeXisT.
En tot september hebben we de tijd om, tussen de normale optredens door, onze theatershow “In the name of U2” te perfectioneren, want dan trappen we af voor zo'n 30 shows avondvullend U2 in het theater!

Rest ons niets dan iedereen een spetterend, denderend en grandioos 2008 te wensen.
